Celtic fan John McGinlay, who was on the Celtic Fans Show, insisted Fraser Forster should feature in Gareth Southgate’s squad.

The Hoops’ goalkeeper is enjoying a renaissance at Celtic Park this season and is a significant contributing factor to their 12 point-lead over Old Firm rivals Rangers in the title race.

Currently on loan from Southampton with the Scottish champions, bidding for 9 titles in a row and an unprecedented quadruple treble, the Englishman has come up big in some of the Bhoys’ biggest games this season.

The 31-year old has expressed willingness to re-sign with the Glasgow club on a permanent basis and is a fan favourite for his sterling efforts in between the sticks this campaign.

Speaking to Charlie Hawkins on the Celtic Fans Show, every Tuesday from 8.30PM, Celtic fan McGinlay said his performances have been so good that he has earned the right to play for England.

"I would suggest that he should at least be in the squad.

“I don't know much about the other English keepers but when you see a 'keeper playing with such personality and confidence, it doesn't really matter what level, he's stepping up in massive moments, massive pressure moments.

"I know he had a difficult time at Southampton and I know people might turn their nose up at Forster coming back into the England squad but for me he is a big game player and I think he would relish the opportunity.”

McGinlay went on to suggest that it shouldn’t matter that Forster is playing his football north of the border and he should get a look in regardless of the quality of football in Scotland.

"You can say what you like with the level of Scottish football but Celtic are a massive club and you need to perform and you have all this expectation on your shoulders and popping up to save penalties, perform so well against Lazio who are one of the form teams in Europe this season just speaks volumes to the quality and character that he has when he's on the top of his game.

"And I think it would be good for Celtic if he can prove he can break into an England squad when he's playing regularly for Celtic; it only bodes well for us signing him permanently for me.”
