Paolo Maldini's son Daniel Maldini made his Milan debut this weekend and social media went wild
Who would have thought one substitution could have caused the internet to go into meltdown.
Especially when the sub was made in the 90th minute with the game heading for an ordinary 1-1 draw.
A fairly innocuous Serie A encounter between AC Milan vs Verona at the San Siro yesterday however caused that exact reaction.
18-year-old Daniel Maldini came on for his AC Milan debut in the famous red and black jersey. Maldini, as you might be able to tell, has quite the footballing family.
Son of Milan and Italy legend Paolo Maldini, Daniel's grandfather also played for the Rossinieri - Cesare Maldini made his debut for the Italian outfit in 1954 and went on to feature 412 times.
ESPN'S Serie A expert James Horncastle saw Daniel's substitution as the 'dysnasty' continuing.
Daniel Maldini, 18, comes on in stoppage time for Milan. The dynasty continues— James Horncastle (@JamesHorncastle) February 2, 2020
Whilst others compared Daniel's teammates to his father's.
Paolo Maldini made his Milan debut in a team that had Baresi, Tassotti and Di Bartolomei...Cesare in a team with legends like Gunnar Nordahl and Juan Schiaffino. Daniel makes his debut in a squad with... Davide Calabria and Asmir Begovic 😏— Carlo Garganese (@carlogarganese) February 2, 2020
Daniel is a little different from his father. Paolo, who won it all with the club including seven Italian titles, was a hardened defender but his son is of the attacking persuasion. An attacking midfielder who can operate on either wing too, the 18-year-old will be looking to get more game time alongside the likes of Zlatan Ibrahimovic.
Maldini, who is verified on Instagram and now has over 150,000 followers, simply put a tick emoji after his debut, signifying his satisfaction.
However in and amongst all the furore, Maldini was making history for the three-time Champions League winners.
