Former Leeds United defender Tony Dorigo has stated if Leeds can stop hindering themselves, they'll be "absolutely flying".

Leeds’ recent form has been patchy at best. With just two wins in their last eight games, the club are four points off leaders West Bromwich Albion and have been caught up by the chasing pack.

On December 14th Leeds were ten points ahead of third-place Preston, but now find themselves only three points clear of Fulham in the second automatic promotion spot.

Speaking on Breakfast Weekend on Love Sport Radio, Tony Dorigo – who made 171 appearances for Leeds between 1991 and 1997 – gave his thoughts on Leeds’ recent performances.

“Watching them is ridiculous, it really is,” laughed Dorigo. “I liken them to a golfer - from tee to green Leeds are incredible.”

“My heart is giving out for them at the moment - they have the yips and if they just sort that out that will be absolutely flying.

“I’ve got to say in the last couple of games they've shown a mental strength which I know the team has got - it's a really strong group of players.

“But sometimes when the ball won’t go in the net, you can't score - it becomes a mental problem.

On what could stop Marcelo Bielsa's side from finally gaining that all illusive promotion back to the top flight, Dorigo stated it was the club itself: “I think the only problem I see for Leeds United is actually Leeds United themselves.

“They should be thinking they can beat any side in that division. But sometimes they seem to beat themselves.

“The last two games I think there’s been a big difference. Yesterday was very good again but it was only 1-0 - it really should have been 4-0.

“They make it difficult, but it's certainly a step in the right direction compared to recent times.”
