Former Everton star Kevin Campbell has suggested that Jordan Pickford should continue being Gareth Southgate's first choice goalkeeper.

We've all seen the mistakes Jordan Pickford has made this season.

His latest blunder coming against Manchester United recently where he allowed Bruno Fernandes' long-range strike squirm underneath him. That mistake saw United equalise and moreover get a foothold back on proceedings. The former Sunderland goalkeeper, it must be said, has also made outstanding saves at times for the Toffees.

Pickford cemented himself into England folklore during the 2018 World Cup, where his penalty shootout heroics saw England FINALLY win a penalty shootout during a World Cup competition.

However his goalkeeping attributes have been called into question at times not just this season, but also last campaign. Who can forget when he failed to deal with Virgil van Djik's skewed volley, allowing Divick Origi to head home a last minute winner in the Meryseyside derby.

Sheffield United's Dean Henderson and Burnley's Nick Pope are now firmly in the conversation to be England's number one for this summer's Euros. Many have called for Henderson, who has 10 clean sheets this season and made several notable saves during his side's narrow 1-0 win over Norwich at the weekend, to be given the nod ahead of Pickford.

Speaking to Andy Hodgson's Kicking Off, ex-Everton striker Kevin Campbell has called for Pickford to retain his position as Southgate's preferred goalkeeper.

"Stats can lie. Jordan Pickford, I still think he's a very, very good goalkeeper. He's the main man right now.

"He has made some mistakes, but you name me a 'keeper who doesn't make mistakes?

"I just think he's the man in possession right now. And for all the poor mistakes he's made, he's made some really good saves as well.

"So a lot of people tend to look at the negatives, but I don't think the other 'keepers have done enough to take it away from him so I think he should be number one.
