Ex-Liverpool shot stopper Chris Kirkland believes those in charge should suspend the Premier League season as the coronavirus pandemic continues to grow, despite his former side being twenty five points clear at the top.
Whether it be the club captain slipping at a crucial stage or ten point lead capitulations, something always seems to stand in between Liverpool and that elusive first Premier League title.
Nobody among the Liverpool faithful could have predicted a contagious virus spreading worldwide potentially scuppering their hopes of a first league glory in three decades.
However, after the World Health Organisation (WHO) officially confirmed the coronavirus as pandemic, the sporting schedule is one of many things facing the repercussions.
To prevent the spread of the virus, football fixtures are facing the prospect of being played behind closed doors or postponed all together. Manchester City vs Arsenal was the first Premier League tie to fall victim as the clash at The Etihad was postponed due to some of the Arsenal squad previously coming into contact with a carrier of the virus.
With many fans and players alike publicly expressing their disdain at the thought of match going fans being denied entry to stadiums, the only other alternative seems to be to suspend all action full stop.
One person who shares this sentiment is former Liverpool goalkeeper Chris Kirkland, who told Love Sport's breakfast show that ultimately the health of fans comes first.
"I think they should suspend the league to be honest because they've thought 'well we can't do that because of the Euro's' but listen, there's gonna be no fans at the Euros the rate things are going.
"So, you know if you have to postpone that tournament, like I said, it's football, it's not the be all end all by any means. People's health and everything is more important so nobody knows how this is going to escalate with this coronavirus, how more serious it's going to get. It sounds obviously very serious and it's going to get worse because of the decisions being made in other countries as well.

"It's not the same, you know, if you play behind closed doors, it just takes the shine off a little bit.
"So I think they should just suspend it all and try and tackle this disease as quickly as they can. So for me, I think they should suspend it for the foreseeable future, but whether that happens or not.
"The thing is then you've got the money men behind the game saying well, we can't do that we're gonna lose all this. But that's irrelevant you know, that's irrelevant.
"It's football at the end of the day, and people are more important than football."
