Ex-top flight referee Keith Hackett thinks the FA have failed to deal sufficiently with Jon Moss’s alleged comments during the Sheffield United versus Bournemouth clash.

Moss was accused by Bournemouth midfielder Dan Gosling of ‘showing zero respect’ and dubbed him a ‘disgrace’ after he claimed the official made ‘sarky comments’ over the Cherries current league standings.

All governing bodies involved: The FA, The Premier League and The PGMOL have all considered it case closed and revealed they won’t be taking any further action against the referee.

Moss made a number of questionable decisions which riled up Bournemouth players in their 2-1 defeat at Bramall Lane on Sunday, but it was his alleged comments which really got under Gosling’s skin.

The midfielder told the Daily Echo: "I thought it was very disrespectful what he was saying. It was just the little niggly ones and then the little sarky comments.”

Speaking to Love Sport’s Breakfast show, ex-Premier League Referee Keith Hackett revealed his thoughts on the incident.

“Comments like this should stay on the field of play and not get sparked into the media, however one has to say given the situation at Bournemouth and the fact they were probably losing at Bramall Lane where they might have expected a different result, then in that situation Jon might have kept those comments to himself.

“What concerns me is that The FA aren’t taking action against either the referee of the player. Sunday, on the football pitch, those referees on the local pitches will get dogs abuse and use Dan Gosling’s comments as an excuse, I don’t think the FA have done their job.”

Hackett also shed some light on what it is like for an official in the midst of the action: “Despite how we feel about it, we want referees to chat but I think you’ve got to chat with great care.

“I had the odd quip, but I was very careful that when on the field of play, I didn’t get on to the player in the wrong way, Jon obviously in this situation has done. Let me just say, I’m not Jon Moss’s biggest supporter, I think there are aspects of his game I don’t like.”
