After both a summer and winter window signing free, Chelsea have finally had their wallet restrictions lifted and have made their first purchase.

Both Ajax and Chelsea have taken to twitter to confirm the news that Moroccan international Hakim Ziyech will swap Amsterdam for West London as of this summer after the two sides reached an agreement of €40 million euros.

The fee could potentially rise to €44 million with certain variables, but that remains to be a solid bit of business for the 2018 Dutch footballer of the year.

Frank Lampard’s first signing as Chelsea boss, Ziyech was one of European football’s most sought after hot properties. Arsenal, Liverpool and Manchester United were all at one point linked with the Moroccans services, but it is the Blues who have won the race for his signature.

Ajax are no strangers to losing star players. The Dutch champions parted ways with both Matthijs De Ligt and Frankie De Jong last summer who departed for Juventus and Barcelona respectively.

Their seems to be little ill-feeling between Ziyech and Ajax, who announced his departure in heartwarming fashion.

The 26-year-old will see out the remainder of this season at Ajax before joining up with Lampard and his new teammates in the summer.

Some Chelsea fans took the announcement as an opportunity to praise Marina Granovskaia, who negotiated the deal.

With six goals and twelve assists to his name already this season, Ziyech has given Chelsea fans some optimism and excitement towards next season before he’s even kicked a ball for the club.
