Former Darts player, now turned pundit, Chris Mason spoke about the better physique darts players have today compared to previous decades.
We all remember the scenes; players guzzling away at their drinks whilst their opponent took aim from the oche.
Those images beamed onto our screens were often mimicked by comedy shows, most famously with Alas Smith and Jones making a sketch about the nature of players drinking heavily whilst on stage.

However nowadays you couldn't even imagine any scenes like those we saw decades ago being replicated in today's game.
One of the effects of this has been players notably looking 'more fit'.
Speaking to Love Sport Radio on the Martin Bell show about how the game has changed in terms of the drinking culture, former World Championship quarter-finalist Chris Mason believes it had to.

"Yeah, well it had to really. I mean when I was playing we had, you know, maybe three or four big events throughout the year and then you may sort of play in a tournament, maybe two, three times a month so the rigours on the players now it's totally different.
"So those that sort of continue to live that old lifestyle get found out and some of these events, it's long course darts and you sometimes have to play sort of three matches on the one day and I know people at home will go well it's not particularly athletic.
"But ultimately the better condition you are, the sharper you'll be and you know, it is physical, you're on your feet all day. It's also mentally very draining.
"So yeah the players are understanding how important physical and mental health is, like it is in all sports, but yeah, times have changed and for the better as well."
