Ex-Hull City boss Phil Brown has sung the praises of potential new West Ham signing Jarrod Bowen.

At the time of writing, West Ham are in pole position to secure the signature of Jarrod Bowen from Hull, fighting off late interest from Crystal Palace and Bournemouth.

The Hammers have struggled in front of goal this season, with summer signing Sebastien Haller their leading marksmen with six to his name.

Bowen has been Hull City’s top scorer for the last two seasons and is leading the way this campaign too, the winger currently sits on 16 goals and six assists.

He joins a West Ham side under intense scrutiny as they hover above the relegation zone and were knocked out of the FA Cup at the 4th round stage by Championship outfit West Brom at home.

Speaking to Love Sport’s Posh Boys on Drive, former Hull City boss Phil Brown revealed he thinks Bowen will thrive in East London.

“I think having watched Jarrod over the last couple of years he’s grown in stature. He certainly knows the runs of the striker and where the back of the net is.”

“West Ham are getting a player on the up, with talent and pedigree albeit in a lower division but there is no doubt in my mind that he’ll score goals in the Premier League. He’s a player that will score goals at the highest level.”

Where Jarrod will fit in positionally for the Hammers remains to be seen, as a lot of West Ham fans are calling for Moyes to play with two up top to support the struggling Haller. Brown, however, thinks Bowen is much more suited to a different formation.

“I think anywhere in the front three. There aren’t many teams that play with two strikers, he’s got a 4-3-3 and with wingers playing out wide that can score goals and a big number nine down the middle.”

“It’s becoming more fluid now. Jarrod can fit into that 4-3-3 role without a doubt, he’ll be surrounded by better players at West Ham, the chances will come along for sure.”

Bowen will be aiming to hit the ground running at The Olympic Stadium, a task Phil Brown see’s him as more than ready for.

“When you’re talking about Jarrod Bowen, you’re talking about the younger end of a career; he’s probably got six or seven, probably longer than that to have the chance to score goals. I think West Ham will clear the relegation zone and it will certainly be a signing for the future.”
