French Forward Karim Benzema became the highest assist provider in Los Blancos history last night.

Karim Benzema surpassed Cristiano Ronaldo as Real Madrid’s all-time assist provider after his perfectly weighted pass was finished off by Lucas Vasquez.

The striker has gone through all kinds of varied periods with Madrid fans, widely criticised by some and adored by others. However, all united in their praise for the forward as he sealed his place in the history books.

It is a testament to Benzema’s consistent service for the club that rarely has he stole the headlines, yet now sits on 161 goals and 132 assists. With 293 goal contributions overall, his €41 million price tag from Lyon has worked out as quite the bargain.

In an era where statistics are dissected and analysed to within an inch of their life, those who watch the Frenchman will know his game is so much more than just goals. It is refreshing to see a striker lauded for providing goals for others.

Last nights 4-1 win over Osasuna see’s Real maintain their three point gap over second placed Barcelona. Zidane’s men have taken a maximum 18 points from their last six games, whilst Barca have stumbled with a draw against rivals Espanyol and a 2-0 defeat at Valencia in recent games.

If Real Madrid are to reclaim the title back from their Catalan rivals, they will need Benzema to continue both scoring and providing. The 32-year-old sits on 22 goals in all competitions.
