Fans react (and ridicule) as Crystal Palace’s Benteke scores his first goal in 35 games

The Belgian’s goal against Everton comes 10 months after his last effort at The Emirates.

Crystal Palace are the Premier League’s lowest scorers this season with 23 goals, one of which has finally been contributed by Belgian Christian Benteke.

It would be fair to say the striker’s move to Selhurst Park has not exactly been riddled with goals; Benteke scoring just 20 in nearly four years with the club.

That statistic isn’t particularly impressive anyway, but is made to look worse when you realise with 15 of those actually coming in his first season in South London.

This means since the beginning of the 2017/18 campaign, the striker has scored just FIVE goals in 64 appearances. Hardly scintillating form for someone who signed to put the ball in the net.

However, during Palace’s 3-1 defeat to Everton at Goodison Park, Benteke’s lengthy goal drought finally came to and, albeit in vain as the Eagles left without so much as a point.

The goal itself can be considered a gift from Jordan Pickford, who allowed Benteke’s tame and frankly poor effort to squirm underneath him which at the time leveled the scores.

As a result, Twitter erupted with, if anything, more slander towards the England keeper than praise for Benteke.

Ultimately, Palace fans took time out from their bewilderment that he had actually scored to praise their big Belgian forward.
