Where will the Toffees finish this season?
Everton are in the market for new forwards, and Wilfried Zaha fits the bill perfectly. Reports suggest the Toffees have already had a £55m bid rejected for the Crystal Palace man, and former Everton winger Peter Beagrie thinks he's worth every penny.
Speaking on Posh Boys on Drive, Beagrie told Love Sport Radio:
"I hope they can get it over the line, and I’m sure the vast majority of Everton fans would hope so too. He can certainly bring that individuality and progressive nature that the fans like. They love a tackle there, but they also like people who can take people on".
"When we talk about individuality, they’ve got Richarlison there who’s been brilliant, but since Lukaku and Rooney they haven’t had such an exciting talent, and the very fact that they’re in the market for him shows an ambition shows a sense of ambition given the price that’s been quoted”
There are still questions about where Zaha would operate should he sign for Everton. Some say he's at his most dangerous on the wing, but the Ivorian international also looked lethal through the middle at times last season. But with the impending addition of Juventus' Moise Kean, it seems most likely that Zaha will be used out wide. That could free up Richarlison to operate through the middle with Kean, and Beagrie says he's excited by the prospect of that partnership.
"We saw Silva employ Richarlison in a wide position at times but his best position is definitely right up top, taking shots and taking people on, and they certainly need another addition there".
Beagrie pointed out that after a busy transfer window, Everton could be a real force this season as they aim to break into the top six.
"When I look at Everton I think about how they finished last year, they were brilliant, in the last eleven fixtures they won six and drew three, so that’s a great springboard".
"Getting out and signing Gomes was a great coup, because he understands the style of play and he’s got that craft and creativity. He also can be a workhorse as well and make tackles and interceptions, and Fabian Delph is a top player too. So they look like they’re strengthening in the right areas, and as an Everton fan I’d be really really pleased”.
